Freedom of work thought

Here's a thought: if somebody paid you  a life-long grant to do whatever kind of work you'd like, what would you do?
It has to be something that some people are actually earning money on, it can't be "watching sports" or "drinking cocktails".

I would love to travel around the world, meeting interesting people, writing their biographies because people fascinate me and...[I feel that] we ALL have a unique story to share w/the world; we can ALL learn from each other. Some people just don't want to "toot their own horn" and...I would LOVE to be able to be part of the process of "sharing" what they have learned...or are learning about themselves, others, and the ups and downs of their life. :-)

Cool.
I always liked to do interviews, from both sides of it.

TC [Girl] said...

Nice. So...does that mean that I can do one for you, someday? :-)

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

If there's a mag or a site that's interested.

TC [Girl] said...

Alrighty, then! Cool and thanks! :-D

Aw it would be cool of Eolake to be interviewed (once more), because his mindset might have shifted a bit after his last interview.

I'd love to help travelers and business people in complicated language situations. I find it so fascinating to be an interface or gateway between different cultures and thoughts.

Also I'd love to work as chauffeur and/or commercial pilot.

...please substitute since for after in my comment.

I would have thought you were being sarcastic, except you don't tend to be. :-)

Someone PLEASE give me a grant so that I can spend the rest of my life trying to make sure someone IS actually looking after the welfare of our rivers and lakes, the seas that surround the UK, and the flora and fauna that live there.
The EA do a laughable job (or not), and the ongoing welfare of a very important part of our heritage is taking a very distant second place to all other considerations.
PLease also give me enough 'clout' financial or otherwise, to actually get something done!
Rant over ..... :-)

When are you ever going to stop sucking up to Eolake?
It's pitiful to watch, almost painfully so!

I wouldn't accept the grant. I think it would spoil everything.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

I was considering the same thing, actually, at least it would remove the game of "winning" or "losing" with whatever you do, and you might lose the drive.

But then, aren't you the one who says very soon money will be gone anyway?

Ah, what I´d like to do, and what I´m probably going to do, even without a grant perhaps, just to kill time as a pensioner in 3 years time:

I´d become a Beach Warden. A person that cleans up our precious and beautiful beaches. And parks.
Same thinking here as "philocalist".

This thought hit me when I watched a TV report about an active Beach Warden supervising a beach area in Northern Germany.

@ poor mangled TC sweety:
soapbox presentations belong to our living in modern free countries: any anomusingbody has the right to utter that they´re still with us, so just let the two of us (and maybe a few more of our commenting community, along a work schedule, though, in the latter case) continue to suck Eo´s sweet delicate breasts, haha!!

(;-))

About 10 years ago, a friend and I talked about starting a business making music videos for folk musicians. Since there's no money in folk music, we figured we'd have to come up with a lot of labor-saving shortcuts and work for peanuts, taking most of our pay in fun instead of money. But we never did it.

Then I took early retirement a few years ago.

I remembered that conversation last week, and I realized I had been doing just that for the last 3 years as a volunteer. I organized a team of volunteers that videotapes all the IMT Monday night concerts and puts artist-approved clips on YouTube. (youtube.com/imtfolk) Definitely lots of fun. It remains to be seen how many people will actually watch and enjoy them.

Folk music... Did you see A Mighty Wind? Excellent comedic movie.

I would promote - and bring back - the passion and drive of pure photography. That is, capturing images in daily life.

...without excuses about 'my iPhone' that doesn't offer image stabilization and other tech wonders. All these wonders are neato, but it lowers the quality of the craft.

If I shoot an image and the subject and color are perfect, but the shot is blurred due to camera settings, or shutter speed or some other reason, THAT image doesn't get published.

Captioning a photograph with something like: "I know this isn't the best picture because it's blurred, and I know it's too dark, but you get the idea anyway, right?..." is pure stupidity.

Separates those with talent and vision from those with too much money to spend on technology they have no business using.

Philocalist said...

HALLELUJAH! to that, Peabody!

.... and no, that isn't aimed at anyone specific, just echoing the sentiment :-)

"a life-long grant to do whatever kind of work you'd like"

I don't want to spend my life working.

Peabody Claçk,
I wouldn't put a blurry shot in an exhibition, or even on my art site, but this is just a blog between friends. And I put it in 1) to show that she was just scowling for fun. 2) as a comment on image stabilization, which I consider relevant when choosing cameras. I had not realized that iPhone 4 apparently doesn't have it.

If you would limit camera ownership to those who use them seriously, I don't think the camera manufacturers would survive, seriously.

Peabody Claçk said...

Oh, so now you're a marketing expert too, in addition to being a 'writer' and an 'artist'...

Isn't it amazing that paper accepts anything you print on it?

Guess what? It IS some people's job. Usually for television, and sometimes WONDERFULLY done, such as the works of Frédéric Lopez.

Josie,
Feeling jealous of TC now? Whose turn is next? (Me and the guys have a bet going...)
Don't you know that you can't hurt a toon?
I really wonder what low-shelf tabloid you read. [Do I detect low shelf-eshteem issues?] Eolake DOES NOT sleep with all (or ANY) of his blog's visitors. My sources at the Mossad say it's all bogus fabrications. :-P
Get yourself a life. Or better yet, get yourself a gigolo once a week. It would help you... "unwind". And maybe then you'd stop sourly hating the whole world for what you imagine they're doing/saying/thinking.
No-no-no, I know what you're thinking *now*, and you're mistaken AGAIN. (But don'tcha worry, shugah, ah won't tell a soul, yer embarrassin' secret's sayfe.)

"let the two of us (and maybe a few more of our commenting community, along a work schedule, though, in the latter case) continue to suck Eo´s sweet delicate breasts, haha!!"

I'm probably going to regret saying this, but I like the way you think, Monsieur. (^_^)

Well, *I* have not made any promises, so I'm blowing the whistle:
Josie's dirty little secret is that she's a figment. Eolake HAS been fucking with all of us. Namely, with our minds!
Shame on you, Eolake. That's really TWISTED, mister. What kind of psycho sicko could dream up such a fucked-up Miss Hyde dual personality? I shudder at the very thought!

"I'm no pretender."

Hey, figments have rights too!
