iPad/Neo video demo

I have made a little video demonstration of how the Alphasmart Neo can be used as keyboard for the iPad.
Or using the iPad as screen for the Neo, if you prefer!
I had set the text very large (36 point) so it would be seen on the video. In normal text size, a *lot* of text will fit on the screen, of course.

iPad with Neo as keyboard from Eolake Stobblehouse.

I have upgraded to Vimeo Plus, so you can see it larger on vimeo.com, see links above.

(By the way, I think Vimeo has smart ways of convincing you to upgrade to paid membership... less waiting time, bigger videos, etc etc.)

Cool!
What camera did you use to shoot this on?

Seems like a great combination.

The Alphasmart guys must be grateful for the extra promotion you're doing for them.

(nope; no bald spot! ;-)

Well, he could always shave one, if that was the issue.

Was just teasing; he got his "big head" (his own words, a few days ago! lol!) in front of the camera, for a sec. :-)

Thanks Laurie.
I filmed it with the Panasonic G1. I didn't even bother to change from the 20mm pancake lens into a zoom.

Thanks, guys.

I was a little worried when I found out my big noggin got in front of the camera, but fortunately I have my father's lush head of hair.

I'm a little proud to have made such a concise demo. Most guys would have waffled on for 6 minutes about the same thing.

Amazing. The join is invisible.

Credit for this gag goes to Morecambe & Wise.

I waffle for England, but 6 minutes on plugging in an adapter and a device is beyond even my skills. David Pogue on a good day, perhaps...

A lot of guys are hitting the drum for them, to use this education device for writers. But the company itself seems to never have seen the light.
And also they do very little in terms of development. It's basically the same device over the past ten years.

They really should make a Neo especially for writers. As far as I'm concerned, it just needs a brighter screen. And maybe one-third taller.

"... for England"... great expression. I guess it means you do it with great enthusiasm, yes?

"I guess it means you do it with great enthusiasm, yes?"

It means I do it at a competitive level in international events such as the Olympics, or the World Waffling Wang held every year at a secret location in the back room of the Grant Arms in Ramsbottom, Lancs.

I shouldn't really mention that, because as Victoria Wood once indicated, there will be outrage now among the tutting commentariat. The very idea of an English person doing anything with enthusiasm is so absurd that no further comment is needed.

A gentleman, anyway. I guess football hooliganism is excepted.

You sound a bit like Arnold Schwartzenegger's more cultured brother on this video. :-)

I've been thinking of getting one of those Neo things. I suppose if they are not too small for the Andre the Giant hands of someone your size, I should be okay.

Right, few people have bigger hands than I have.

Thanks. Somebody on TUAW said I sounded like Mads Mikkelsen as Le Chiffre. McCool with McMe. :-)

It is indeed a full-sized (18-milimetre per key) keyboard.
