Duran Duran - The Chauffer

Alex points to another sexy video. It even has a topless girl in it, which is very rare in mainstream music videos, methinks. She's hot*, and not a gram of silicone, thanks gawd. And she can really move, very interesting dance moves. Seriously, it's durn good stuff, I wonder who she is.

*Very small breasts, very lovely. I looked up antonyms to "buxom", and isn't it interesting, but sad, that there are no positive words meaning "having small breasts"? I used to think "petite" meant it, but it basically means short and thin. There are only words like "thin" and "flat", which are hardly flattering, and not really descriptive either.

By the way, for saving videos, I'm having success with Downloadhelper for Firefox, which Pat recommended recently. Helpful plugin. It can even convert videos to other formats on the fly.

Ah, yes, I remember back in 1983 or 84 when DD were at their peak. My cousin showed me this video, I think she was a bit embarrassed, but then again we were only about 15. My cousin was also offended by the soap advert, (Biore?) which was the first UK tv add with a visible nipple.

Hmm, seems "The Chauffeur" was on their second big album Rio in 82.

This predates the "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" gay biker, S&M video with toga lord for "Relax". It's funny, but when I was talking to someone about Relax recently I mentioned how the video was close to the edge with it's cliched mustachioed leathers and assless chaps (cowboy pants, not men). The look that met me across the table was one of total surprise. They had said the Frankie video was tame, but my description did not meet their memory at all. There was second cleaned up video which the US saw.

The other video I referenced was aired (cut version) on the Max Headroom show, which went out at 5:30 or 6pm.

Maybe in the 80's we had that brief liberal period, where even cop shows like The Sweeney had nudity, and youth TV included OTT with its overt sexuality. Channel 4 was experimenting with the bounds of TV, and Porkies was mandated viewing for teenage school boys. We were probably the first generation to be exposed to Page Three girls from as early as we can remember.

I am still shocked that I can't put up a simple text note in this country asking for a nude model, in the same shop which sells the rag Daily Sport, which is shock full of nude chicks.

I've only seen one antonym that was even vaguely complementary: "Carpenter's special". Not generally used, but I've seen it a couple of times.

Bummer, because I really like quality over quantity in just about everything.

Wikipedia has the name of the model

Try the Irish (Dublin) word "tidy" meaning small and firm.

Wow.

Such a wonderful video.

And it's yet another proof that color is NOT always better!

You can't advertise for nude model!

So can you use words other than "nude?"

Personally, I like 'C' cup and below--and I KNOW that bigun's are a major pain in the back for the women.

Dated a woman once who had breast reduction surgery (to bring her down to a D cup) and afterwards her husband wouldn't touch her...marked the beginning of the end of that marriage.

(Good grief.)

Ah, the blonde is Perri Lister! (Thanks TCG.)
Used to be in sexy dance group Hot Gossip. I remember them from Danish TV in the late seventies!

"Tidy"... not bad.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

Do the Irish use "tidy" about breasts, or about other things which are small and firm? If the latter, what are some examples?

Charles said...

Perri just had a birthday last month...and according to that so-so reliable source Wikipedia, she's singe & in L.A.....

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

Oddly, I had no success in finding any photos of her.

There's a TC[dude] also? Wow.

... Wow, so there is. And he even seems to be Danish. Good to see you, dude, halløj halløj.
Pardon for my inattention.

I wonder if the lack of a positive, descriptive word for small-breasted suggests this was seen as the norm and needed no word to indicate a variance from the norm?

Charles said...

Norm?

No. Since there are negatives.

I read some theory that breasts are a substitute for ass, since large breasts present a similar visual pattern.

All I know is that personally I don't care for them large, and everyone I've known who had them complained of back pain, and of the males who reacted to the breasts, rather than the person....

I also read that the reason women's eyes don't seem to travel south as muh as men's is that they have different peripheral vision and can see your feet while looking at your face.

Having had many teachers and a mother with eyes in the back of their heads, I believe it.

A friend of mine at university used to do a piece for some performance club that talked about buying the first bra when there was nothing...claims she can't remember it any more...hilarious, at one point it goes "...so I threw open my blouse and told the saleswomen "I need help for these!" Saleswoman says; "The band-aids are that way."

I should know the piece, she rehearsed in our office for weeks....
