the padform

Maybe we non-iPadists need to wear a T-shirt that says “Mind the gap” ... just as a friendly platform warning to those who are not used to seeing iPadless people. :-)

Good one. And it'll give us a couple seconds to swallow our pity so it doesn't show.

By the way, it's very unhandy to say, for example: "software for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad"... So I've invented a word for that platform: it's now called "the padform".

And I've invented a word for people like you: padholes.

Nah, just kidding, Eo. Be happy and rave all you like about your iPad :-D

Thanks, dude.

Semmes, I've read that article, and it seems to me that he's is talking about some of the applications some people have made for the iPad, rather than the device or platform itself. And I don't really see the connection between the CD-ROM and the iPad. One is an optical storage disk, the other is a tablet computing device.

It does sometimes happen that the label for a subset becomes the generic name for a superset, but I respectfully suggest that the alternative "Apple iSeries" might be more precise and informative, especially when trying to penetrate the twin PC shields of ignorance and stupidity.

I make no claim for originality in the creation of this name, although I did arrive at it under my own steam, I think. PADFORM is already used by the San Francisco State University Division of Information Technology for their web publishing services:

The common denominator for these devices is the operating system, not the form factor, which is a differentiation. I rather liked iSX, but Steve and I have argued long and hard over that dumb space in OS X, and some wag will doubtless come up with iSeX and OSuX, so better not to go there.

I heard the pope has ordered all Vatican cardinals to switch to the iPad. They call this process the padreform.

In other news, the company's new slogan is reportedly:

Apple iSeries, the choice of the serial youser.
