I got mine

OK, just got iPad.
I've noticed that Steve Jobs and Apple don't call it "the iPad", they call it "iPad" as if it's a name. As in, "when you turn iPad, the screen will turn also".

So far so good. Only oddity so far is that when plugged into my Mac, the little note by the battery says "not charging". I wonder why.

It's true it's responsive. It's not just "fast for a mobile device", it is fast for anything. Well done, Apple.

Ah, I was just reading about this! The iPad is somewhere between a phone and a laptop, at least when it comes to power requirements. It can charge, though slowly, from any powered USB port (e.g. ports on a computer or a hub that has its own power supply) but only if it's asleep.

A normal USB port cannot supply enough to charge an iPad while it's awake. A few recent Macs have USB ports that can supply enough power to charge an iPad while you use it. Even then, the fastest way to charge an iPad is with the mains adapter.

Anxiously awaiting delivery of my iPad today.

My iPod (and Mac) also say "Not Charging" when their batteries are full...

Although if you DO have (the) iPad plugged into a USB-hub, it most likely isn't getting enough power through.

It could well be a full battery, because after I unplugged it, it showed 100%.

The gap between an iPhone and a laptop is very narrow. I suspect that is why they are not using a definite/indefinite article before iPad. |-)

Apple, and Jobs in particular, have always spoken in a way that anthropomorphized their products, and breathed life into otherwise inanimate objects: "Welcome to Macintosh". Examples abound: perhaps somebody should collect them for the sociolinguistics and cultural anthropologists of the future.
