Spotting offenders

Not only is this wording unfortunate...

But also it makes me a bit sad that apparently there are people who will feel safer if they have an iPhone app showing them where registered sex offenders live. Sigh.

Most people don't realize that you can be marked for life as a sex offender for things that really shouldn't stay with you that long. Like a 17 year old having consensual sex with his 16 year old girlfriend. Because she's underage, it's statutory rape and the guy gets marked as a sex offender for life and will not be able to attend his future kid's school play.

Oh, then there is the part where 13 years later someone goes on a man hunt for sex offenders, sees this guy "raped" a 16 year old, knocks on his door and shoots him in the head.

Somethings should have a limit.

Except that no 17 year old will be arrested for banging his 16 year old girlfriend. There is some leeway. The law is meant to protect that 16 year old from the 45 year old perv.

You're relatively new on this blog, aren't you, Steve?
The insane story of a 17 year old arrested for banging his 16 year old girlfriend was mentioned not too long ago...
