After 20 Years, Mac IIci Finally Dies

After 20 Years, Maryland Man’s Mac IIci Finally Dies, article.
Some people just won't give up on what works for them. In a way I admire that.
Lucky guy though, hadn't made a single backup in 20 years, and he still has all his data. All 2.2MB of it!

I think that a Mac lasting for 2 decades must be extremely rare. This one likely only lasted that long because it was hardly used. I'm three years into my third iMac and the previous two lasted approximately 5 years each. They were well used and well loved - and backed up CONSTANTLY, Geez!

I'm still using my old Vic 20. Just kidding. The radiation would have killed me before now.

Just saying: that's not the IIci in the picture. The IIci was once described as 'the most compatible Mac ever'. Last I heard mine was running as a mail server, and I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts another 20 years.

This sounds a lot like my treasured old Canon StarWriter 30...like that Energizer Bunny it just keeps going.

But it's a good thing I bought a new computer last fall, because my old one bit the dust last week - just refuses to boot up. It won't even finish the 'POST' routine at the very beginning of all that.

The Mac is so reliable, I always bought the model that was phased out when the new models were released.

I've had about 20 different models since 1984.

I now have the large screen iMac; my daughters each have a Mac portable, two different models. My wife has an iMac.

Aesthetically the best; technically the easiest to use. More bang for the buck.
