To Anonymus: At the times of sunrise or sunset the power of shining seems not so strong so you can look and photograph directly into the sun. The sunbeames crossing the atmosphere in a long, almost horizontal way, so this is reducing the beampower for a few minutes. Also light clouds or fog can have the same effect, as you can see at eolakes pictures. In all other cases you are right with your opinion; beware your eyes!

The also remind me of when I used to live in places with interesting sunsets. What is the use of a yellow sunset that goes grey? Sure twilight is nice here, but the sunsets are lame, not enough smog, and not enough cloud.
Though these pictures are nice, I've seen enough of EO's work to not be surprised, especially at the end of a jading week. However the title piqued my curiosity more than it's English translation, and to see German when I was expecting Danish (Mmmm bacon - old TV add, coupled with reading some Anglo centric Fleming{Chitty-Chitty, Bang-Bang} brings back childhood word association football).

Nice capture, especially the third picture. How did you dare to shoot against sun with such a long lens? I've heard it can be very dangerous to eyes.
I try to keep at least 45 degrees "safe angle" at the sun when I shoot with a long lens (like 200mm or so). But that's just me. :)
It was all but hidden by clouds.
That was my school german, not sure if it's correct, but it's supposed to say "three variations on the sun".

That's all because of the funny German thing called "grammar", my friend, hehe. Nothing to bother about though.
Sidenote: Miss 8:36 surely is right.
I also avoid exposing the sensor of my digicam to direct sunlight. You never know you know.
