New art poster

There's a new pinup at Domai. (Warning, nude art drawings.)

I changed the page to say "art poster". Some people think that "pinup" somehow compromises the site. I don't get it. Do you? What's impure about pinups?

I asked a visiting friend about it today, and she said "maybe it's because they're not as classy as the photos".
I suspect that's it, but I don't really see it. To me they are at least as classy. Maybe I see them as a painter, not as a public?

It was great to see Dean Yeagle's art work on Domai and this blog. I've been a fan of his for years. He has taken the spirit of artists like Gil Elvgren and brought into the 21st century. I've ordered just about everything he's published from www.budsartbooks.com.
It may be old news to some but i bought the book "Moving On" by Steve Hanks. He also sells many prints of his work on his website. I believe his work is worthy of the gorgeous natural nudes on Domai. His work in watercolors are the best I've ever seen.

To me, a pin-up is a less serious (as in more fun) picture. In a pin-up, I typically expect a smile or close to it. I expect a more playful attitude. I expect awareness of the camera; no voyeur feeling. No "I'm so sexy" look, no ecstasy. Generally speaking, I really like all these traits and enjoy pin-ups quite a lot, although I do like a little edge here and there.

I've always though of pin-ups as the more tame and "pure" nudes. Interesting how people see things differently.

Sorry, to qualify, "pure" here is in terms of morality, not purity of art.

Why is there a warning "of nude art"???
Is this a bomb???

This time it's me who says (like Eo has done so often): I DON'T GET IT.

Because some potatoes, erm people, blah blah blah - yeah I know. And I'm unimpressed.

PS/ oh i got it: humans have to be warned of themselves, it's that easy. and it makes sense.

Back in the Dark Ages, when men were men and the gals were all naturally double-breasted, the original pinups were scantily-clad in provocatively brief or revealing outfits but they weren't completely nude. The nudity came later, during the Great Textile Famine which was a direct result of Global Warming....any questions?

This pin-up is very classy.
And what a lovely, poetic, hugely Domai-ish pin-up this is! Really in the site's spirit, I feel.

Beep,
You'd be surprised as to what can be "work-unsafe" in some places.

Professor Ray,
I'm sorry, I must've missed a few classes, I feel a little behind on the program.
But I always love to feel a cute little behind, so...

Somehow it also bothered me when I first saw it, but I did not stop thinking why. I'll give it a try. Si here is my personal opinion:

I think the main issue is that if you name those pictures "domai pin-ups", it gives the impression that those ladies somehow represents domai. I guess this is what bothered me. Because I think they don't, domai is much more polyphonic. "Art poster" is just more neutral, I think it's a better name.

Some domai pictures are interesting to me because they show the beauty and personality of real women. And I think I like domai because women are shown that way, and women who like domai probably share this opinion.

Those drawings, though I understand sexy to a man's eye, are the expression of a man's fantasy, it just shows a perfect body and not much mind. Which is probably just fine for most of the male... :-) But domai is giving a more complex image of women (intentionaly or unintentionally :-), so if those pictures were to be somehow domai's icons, that would not serve domai.

I think these are domai's pin-ups:
http://www.domai.com/photos.html,
and probably most of the pictures could be called pin-ups.
Those drawing are fine "art drawings", and the problem is solved! :-)

I don't see what's wrong with "pinup" either. Pinups can be classy.

I don't particularly like the kind of cartoony style of the ones you've put up here, but I guess that's one of the modern styles. I definitely prefer it to something like this.

Not really. That's sort of like saying "Sanitation Engineer" is better than "Garbage Man." (Just to be clear that doesn't mean I think pinups are garbage.)

Those drawings, though I understand sexy to a man's eye, are the expression of a man's fantasy, it just shows a perfect body and not much mind.

I really do not see much intellect in the eyes of most of those domai photographs. You could have a model who is a genius but it's not going to come across in a photo. What you say about it being a male fantasy of a perfect body - well, duh! That's the entire behind the invention of the pinup. That is why they were painted, because you could not find real women with bodies like that. They represent the dream.

I agree the Lara Croft pinups sucks molten death through a short straw.

Vargas is good, but I prefer Gil Elvgren.
