Sony buzzwords

Nicely tongue-in-cheek article covering a Sony camera press conference.

"09:30: There's a lady on stage now who appears to be talking about cameras but there are so many buzzwords ('leveraging user experience') that I'm not sure."

I have a hard time taking Sony seriously in the photography arena. Sure, they led the portable, broadcast-quality video field for many years, but other than that, I can't picture them as a pro equipment supplier.

Take the "Face Recognition" and "Smile Check" bull, for instance. What the heck? I can just picture the scene where you can't take the shot at Uncle Bob's birthday because one of the kids is sulking. And then everybody getting angry at the kid because they're tired of holding the pose. That's it, no more pictures today. Wow.

Is it just me and my allergy to marketing-driven outfits, or what?

I hear you.
But Sony says that even the upcoming Flagship model is not really aimed at the real pro market. And they have done a good job with the cameras so far, I could use them.

But would you buy them?

I don't expect a 24 Mp camera to be cheap in today's market. But I, for one, would never spend that kind of money for a camera, unless I feel like I will enjoy using it for many years. And my perception of Sony is more of consumer gadgets that get "out of fashion" after two years tops. But maybe that's just me...

It may be.
If I was looking for a camera, I might buy one. And the newly announced A300 and A350 look very interesting, seems to be a highly usable Live View feature.
