Transformers

I've decided to take Joe's advice (thanks to everybody who wrote here and in email), and see how it goes when I'm writing on a laptop in bed. So this is a test.
So far it feels much better. But I'll talk to my physio about it.

Since last night, when I feel good, I'm watching Transformers on HD-DVD in my living room. And when I'm in pain, I'm watching Ghost Rider in my bed.

It's an interesting contrast, because they are both big summer-holiday Action Fantasy type of films, based on comic books or toys. But not equally well made.

Ghost Rider is... pretty silly. Well, they are both silly, but Transformers is it in a good way. Ghost Rider takes itself too seriously, and it's pretty cliched. It has flashes of humor, but too rarely. It looks good, but unevenly. For example, the most important design, the skull of Ghost Rider himself, is boring, a generic smooth skull. They should have done much better. Like the face of King Kong in the recent movie, which had scars and a chipped fang and so on.

Transformers is a nice surprise. It is much better than a silly toy-based film for kids is supposed to be. It is funny, often very funny, and has a good story. And it looks simply amazing. And not just the special effects either: every shot is just gorgeous.

Another thing that's gorgeous is the female lead. Holy cow, she can't be human. And a good actor too, like all of them, doing a good job blending drama and silly humor in this film. Recommended.

Get well soon!

Now, about Ghost Rider, I absolutely adore that Ghost Rider song by Johnny Cash. Very nice! But you're right about the film. It could've been a lot better!

By the way .. maybe you can have a chat with foxy Megan Fox and get her on Domai? ;)

Lousy to be feeling so when watching Transformers. At least you got to watch movies. You may also be entertained by this Fan Page on the Transformers if you liked the movie. The HDVD version is amazing.

:-) Who doesn't?
Of course, it has little relation to the flaming skull guy.

"Another thing that's gorgeous is the female lead. Holy cow, she can't be human."

Falling for robotic hotties now, Eolake? ;-)
What dream car does she transform into, a Lamborghini Diablo?

Megan Fox is cute, but compared with Daisy Duke in "The Dukes of Hazard - in the beginning", April Scott is the third and possibly best looking DD.

Since we are talking about silly kids movies, did anyone see the live action "Thunderbirds" of 2004 with Vanessa Anne Hudgens as Tintin?

I now have my kids hooked on the original '65 tv series (that and The Avengers).

I enjoyed Ghost Rider myself. I didn't know Johnny Cash sung the GR song? Are you sure? I've got to watch this film again. Can't believe I missed that?
The movie did extremely well nationwide. But each to their own :)

I haven't seen either, but I was disappointed that they didn't get Frank Welker to do Megatron's voice in Transformers, and that they made Bumblebee a Camaro. Still, I will see it just because I liked the cartoon.

I'm planning to see it. It looked good to me from the trailers. I don't actually get to many movies in the theatre and see most at home. I did like the comic book. I don't know that the success of a movie alone is any indication of its quality, that's individual taste (the reason I don't know why critics get paid to be critics).

Blockbuster movies always make me go a big rubbery one.

You should really cut down on the Viagra, Anon #2. There might be social side-effects some day. :-)

Terry, I haven't seen the GR movie, but I believe Anon #1 meant the classic country song Ghost Riders in the Sky. Unrelated to the Marvel avenging biker, and perhaps not even featured in his movie. Perhaps.

"the reason I don't know why critics get paid to be critics"

What, you mean you don't understand why there are some meaningless, and yet well-paid jobs?
"Everybody's a critic." But not everybody's smart enough to GET PAID for it. ;-P

I'd like to get laid for it.

Thanks Pascal, I probably did misunderstand. Now I'm curious about this particular song by Mr. Cash.
