Fast internet

A residential connection which can download a movie in two seconds!

Lord knows I could use that. The connections around here suck butt. I am paying for two supposedly good connections. And just today, the DSL connection kept crapping out on me (disconnecting), while the cable connection was downloading at around 15k, which is totally painful. It took me three hours to download a 85MB file.
I don't understand why the two connections are sometimes problematic at the same time, one is on the phone network and the other is on the cable TV network. Totally unrelated, so I would think.

Funny enough that this post appeared after a crash of the Internet last night - watch on UToobe --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4vDClhnJjs :)

Maybe there is a better source for downloading stuff, but right now I'm using eMule, and it is a pain because your own computer's speed is less important than how fast other people want to let you have the file. Also, people seem to think it's funny to rename a hardcore porno, so that if you think you're getting an episode of American Dad, you're actually getting MILF Hunter or some crap like that.

At least you have power, Captain. (Captain Power? Cool!)
Here in "futuristic" Lebanon, juice shortage is dismal AGAIN. It's becoming routine, like in the "good old days" of the war. I'm currently receiving my mail on the batteries, and dropped by to say hi.

I'll try to comment more later. Good night.

Anyway, I've got to rise early to get the Deathly Hallows first thing in the morning! :-)

I think a lot of it depends on your personal exact circumstances, rather than on the "service" offered by the company who's in charge of giving you your internet. I tweaked and tweaked with my wireless router, annoyed that I could get one speed when I had a wire plugged in from the back of it directly to my computer but only about a third of that when I was wandering around the house with my laptop using radio. Suddenly I found a sweet spot and all was fast again. I tweaked my home modem connection, too; it kept dropping until I found out that I had what the phone company calls a "paper" rather than a "wire" link box and I was the first phone on that box.

A million little things. Most of them unknown to kids who don't have anything to recommend them but a certificate in computer training. Often you can find out more by hanging around the workshop with a tinkerer for a few days than you ever would getting a Microsoft certification.
