Hypocrisy?

Almost everybody uses or have used drugs of some kind. And yet almost everybody is adamantly against drugs. Weird, eh?
So is "everybody" hypocrites? I don't think so.
To research it, I looked up hypocrisy. And lo and behold, there was exactly the explantion I needed.

Disclosure:
One of the main reasons I surf cyberspace is to look for mentions of drugs and the war on drugs so I can urge people to think about the immense harm being done worldwide by governments' wars on drugs.
In the US, the war on drugs is genocide against young black men.
Worldwide, the war is a direct subsidy to terrorists.
I don't use illegal drugs. Don't advocate their use. Never did. So I'm not a hypocrite. At least in this regard.
I think the proper definition or analysis is that demonizing of certain drugs creates a chronic hysteria which governments incite and use to blind citizens to reality. The war on drugs is, without doubt, a make-work program for cops.

A common misconception is that hypocrisy means "deficit of the crisoid gland". Don't be fooled, the crisoid grand doesn't exist : in moments of crisis we rely on the *adrenal* glands.

That's a myth. I'm black and do not use illegal drugs. The blacks caught dealing crack and coke are guilty of these crimes are so are the whites.
Most blacks lack education and seem to be lazy in some areas. No, I'm not racist. Remember, I'm black.
Sad to say our race doesn't seem to care much about education or reform.

proud black man,
If you value education, perhaps you could brush up on Econ 101 to see how the War on Drugs entraps young black men in a life of "crime."
It happens because something that should not be a crime is crime DEFINED into existence by people just like you.
So you favor continuing to entice young black men into abandoning education and turning to violence instead?
Why?

"In the US, the war on drugs is genocide against young black men."
Yeah, it's always the black men's fault. And the latinos. Ever since we ran out of injuns to scapegoatize.
):-(

"I think the proper definition or analysis is that demonizing of certain drugs creates a chronic hysteria which governments incite and use to blind citizens to reality."
Been watching "Bowling for Columbine", haven't you? It's hard to go back at being a blind hysterical citizen once you've calmly opened your eyes.

Think what you like about it, but the Iranian regime has at least one very positive aspect to it : since Khomeyni, if you're a drug dealer and get caught, they hang you. End of problem. They don't even bother to talk about their war on drugs, they just act. Seriously.
Also, it is a little known fact, but since the fall of the Taliban regime, opium culture in Afghanistan has exploded exponentialy. The talibans were accessible to pressure, and beginning to respond markedly. Now, with the anarchic rule of a myriad of warlords, the problem's mound has become a mountain. Because the will to act effectively has gone.

I'm very un-convinced by these officials' claims that the Western world is doing everything it can against drugs. They could be doing much more, even without using the death penalty. Now, THAT would be truly civilized.

Of course they are. I believe David just meant that they are not all dealt with in quite the same way from the concerned authorities.

Right. Though I would've said "many" in place of "most".
Being black in the USA is simply a frequent synonym of being poor and raised in underprivileged areas. The rest is mere expectable consequence. Same for the crime rate. It's not because of "race", it's because of social conditions.

Replace "blacks" with "arab-born", and you can say the exact same thing in France.
You can also expect to be labeled a racist if you say anything about education or the crime rate. Goes without saying.

I know I'll get flamed again by the Grumpy Club for making this one, but...
John, some people would probably call you "hippo feet". ;-)

I should talk!Once, I stubbed my big toe with apparently little force, but I had to grow back a whole nail to replace the one that left me. Ouch.

Dear Friend,

Wednesday night President Bush had the opportunity to change course in Iraq and announce to the American people that he would begin to bring our troops home. Instead, he has made the choice to escalate our involvement in Iraq’s civil war by sending 21,500 more troops to the region.

Send President Bush the message: No Escalation -- No Way by visiting:

Thank you

proud black man,
You've clearly understood what "hypocrisy" means. :-(

I'll visit that link ASAP.

pascal and proud black man,
Both of you are missing the point. Quoting myself from my comment of 1:46 AM, "perhaps you could brush up on Econ 101 to see how the War on Drugs entraps young black men in a life of "crime.""

I am running out of ways to make this any clearer, but do you both favor a policy of continuing to entrap people into committing made-up, invented, defined-into-existence "crime"?
Why? Sadism on your part?

No sadism here, David, honest! Looks like I AM missing your point.
I just don't know how the War on Drugs DIRECTLY entraps young black men in a life of "crime". Unless Econ101 is a web site, you need to enlighten me.
I always like being enlightened.

For my part, I think society-induced poverty does encourage young blacks into dealing drugs as an easy way to improve their material life and eventually social status. But "entrapment" sounds too extreme a term. It's very hard, but still eventually possible, to find other and non-criminal paths. Drug dealing is not a written fate!

As I said, the situation with arab-born young people in France is quite similar. And several of them succeed honestly, to later use their example as proof that crime isn't a mektoub. Zinedine Zidane is a textbook case.

About your link, PBM : it's a petition, so it's not for me, as I'm no american citizen. But I'm confident it'll have much success in the US. I find it well written : clear, concise, to the point. Should even be understandable to ol' Dubya!
