"Podiobooks"
I have long been irritated by the extremely high prices most publishers want for e-books and for audio books (downloadable). It's not right, and it is not even good business sense. So it is very refreshing to find a wonderful idea like Podiobooks.
Try www.librivox.com. It's a non-profit project to record as many as possible of the books that are in the general domain qua copyright. I also occasionally volunteer for them, the quality is great.

Though I've also been following Podiobooks for a while, since most of the audiobooks are books the readers have written themselves - new material!

I occasionally volunteer for Librivox, when I have time. I don't do all that much, but I do enjoy it.
